For The 23rd Genesis Awards March 28, 2009
This year’s gala is dedicated to ending
the brutality of the Canadian Seal Hunt!
Hundreds of thousands of these adorable pup seals
are clubbed to death each year for the commercial fur trade.
The ensuing bloodshed is a sad and stark travesty
against the backdrop of the white snow.
TOGETHER, We Can Put a Stop to This Barbaric Massacre!!!

Ellen and Portia
Ellen and Portia can look forward to a warm welcome at The 23rd Genesis Awards,
the only awards show of its kind which celebrates the media for celebrating animals.
Bill Maher, comedian and political satirist,
captured the feeling of the nearly 900 people
who attended the taped-for-television
22nd Genesis Awards in the International Ballroom
of The Beverly Hilton Hotel...
...said Maher, "I always feel better in this room than in any other room."
"I'd rather get an award here than be nominated for 25 Emmy Awards."
"...animals are the most innocent, most speechless, most defenseless creatures
and they deserve a mean, take-no-prisoners, son-of-a-bitch like me talking for them." —Awardee Bill Maher
Says Cromwell of the Genesis Awards:
"I come every year because I think
it's the best award show.
I care deeply about the animals
and these are the only awards
that give them a fair showing."
"Pets are humanizing.
They remind us we have an obligation and responsibility
to preserve and nurture and care for all life,"
says James Cromwell.
"Like most people, I wasn’t always a vegetarian,
but I’ve always loved animals.
If you ever have a chance to meet a cow, pig, turkey, or goat, you will see that they are just as cute and funny as your dogs and cats and that they, too, want to live and feel love."
He was filmed stating,
"I'm here to celebrate the World Bank's plan
to form a global alliance of conservation partners
to work with the tiger range nations
in order to secure a future
for these magnificent creatures."
The 23rd Genesis Awards is made possible in part
by the generous contributions
of sponsors like LukA's List!
Our relationship with the Hollywood Office of the Humane Society of the United States
was solidified during our rigorous campaign efforts for Vote Yes On Prop 2!
What happened to animals in the past invariably occurred in the dark, behind closed doors.
Through the combined efforts of organizations such as Farm Sanctuary and LukA's List
we are helping HSUS bring animal welfare issues
into America's collective consciousness!
In large part, animal abuse and exploitation
have only received mainstream media attention in recent years.
By supporting HSUS with the Genesis Awards
we become instrumental in growing that attention by showcasing those in film,
television, and print media who bring animal welfare issues into
America's living rooms.
